By Important steps towards sustainability
ABB is committed to reaching carbon neutrality in its operations by 2030. In pursuit of achieving this ambitious target, ABB’s Recording and Control business has implemented a number of initiatives.
- Made printed instruction manuals an optional item
By having customers select that they specifically require a printed manual the R&C business expects to reduce its paper usage by over a tonne per year. In addition, because the majority of R&C’s products are distributed via air freight, we will in a small part by helping to reduce global CO2 emissions. To help offset the environmental impact of the instruction manuals we continue to ship, the Recording & Control business has partnered with Forest of Marston Vale to plant a tree for every 25 instruction manuals shipped. 2. Discontinued the distribution of CDs
We used to include a CD with each of our Paperless Recorders. With high potential of these ending their life in landfills, taking on average a million years to decompose. Or at a waste incineration plant releasing toxic fumes. We have taken action to replace them with the more environmentally friendly option of downloads via a QR code.
3. Option to plant a tree for every recorder shipped from the factory
In exchange for registering their purchase of any of our recorder products, we give customers the option that ABB will plant a tree on their behalf. We have been running this initiative for approximately a year and have had a good number of responses. Our commitment doesn’t stop here. In addition to continuing to find ways of improving our operations, we partner with our customers to help them optimize their processes in order to reduce their emissions and achieving sustainability targets. We do this by supplying our world-class instruments and solutions to our valuable customers. ABB’s recording and control products are working round the clock to help our customers reduce waste, improve recycling, and reduce energy consumption.
