Recording and Control is always looking for innovative ways to reduce its environmental impact. For example, you may have seen from our product registration system that we will plant a tree on your behalf at Marston Vale Nature Reserve. ABB is committed to looking forward to a more sustainable future. We are taking a step closer by installing a solar farm at the Stonehouse facility, which will produce renewable energy.
With the addition of a solar farm, Recording and Control products are now assembled using 100% renewable energy generated on site. What does this mean? All the electricity required to manufacture an R&C product for example calibration test rigs, computers, power tools, printers, etc. comes from our solar farm.

One of the benefits of using solar panels during the day is that they naturally align with staff working hours. The energy generated doesn’t stop at the end of the working day, so battery storage is available to store excess electricity for a rainy day. It’s not just production that is powered by sunlight our farm also powers all site amenities, for example, Air Conditioning, lighting, and even our EV car chargers.
ABB Stonehouse, utilizing data analysis solution ABB Ability™, this deployment allows for a broader energy management of site systems. The Building Analyzer provides detailed monitoring of energy usage, covering multiple points of electricity, gas, and water consumption across the factory. Implementing this system represented a major advancement toward enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability, and lowering operational costs on-site to learn more click here.
Now, when purchasing an ABB Recorder or Controller, you can be confident that 100% renewable energy has been used to assemble it. The Recording and Control team is always striving for greener products. For example, reducing paper usage as well as conducting product circularity investigations to quantify the environmental impact of the materials used within our products and find ways to make our products more sustainable. Other environmental steps taken by Recording and Control include a QR code on every product to access documentation removing the need for a paper instruction manual. Small wins like this can have a significant impact on cost and sustainability.
