Without the knowledge that a measurement device has been carefully calibrated, little confidence can be placed on the data that it provides. This is especially true for recording devices used for safety, regulatory compliance, or billing purposes. As a result, many industries and regulators mandate routine calibration intervals for measurement equipment.
