With the popularity of OpenAI’s ChatGPT ever increasing, we decided to ask it some questions to see what it had to say about ABB’s Recording and Control products.

As a test we asked ChatGPT, “What are the benefits of using ABB’s paperless recorders and PID controllers compared to its competitors?” Here is it’s reply:

In this article we have two images which have been created by MidJourney, the first is its interpretation of a “Food and Beverage factory”, and the second is its interpretation of an “ABB Screen Master Paperless Recorder.” When thinking about artificial intelligence we assume that they will give the correct response first time. However, without a specific, well-structured question the AI may can often misinterpret the request, this was especially true of MidJourney which clearly has a lot to learn about modern Paperless Recorders!  Typically, fine tuning of the request or addition of specific details was needed.

As impressive as AI is today, we must remember that it is still in its infancy.  As its capabilities and accuracy evolves so to must our understanding of its potential uses.  What might AI’s place be in industrial automation?  Could it provide the ultimate answer to fine tuning the PID settings of a tricky to control process loop?  Or automate the review of process data captured by a paperless recorder?  Whatever the case, AI is definitely here to stay and at ABB we are excited to see its future potential.
